Autism Evaluation and Testing
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the brain’s development. It impacts language, social interaction, communication, and play.
Parents often report seeing symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder starting at 18 months old, and often peaking at 4-5 years old. Autism Spectrum Disorder ranges from mild conditions, including a diagnosis previously called Asperger’s Syndrome, to more severe forms, including children being nonverbal and engaging in aggressive behaviors.
Our practice specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning. We use the ADI-R, or the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised, and the ADOS, or the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule. This evaluation is appropriate for children and adults with mental ages of 18 months and above for ADI-R, and children 12 months and above for ADOS. For children, the parents are interviewed.
The ADI-R is a semi-structured, standardized assessment of every symptom of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The ADOS provides a systematic and standardized method for identifying children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This process involves making direct observations under controlled circumstances. ADOS components include standardized scenarios the evaluator walks the child through, including structured conversations, social scenarios, and presses which cue responses.
The ADI-R interview lasts 90 – 120 minutes and is done virtually, while the ADOS interview lasts 40 - 60 minutes and is done either in-person or virtually. After the interview, you will receive a thoroughly written report. We then schedule a follow-up appointment to review the results, and connect you with services that are appropriate for you and/or your child.
The fee for an Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluation, including the ADI-R interview, written report, and follow-up appointment, is $580. The fee for an Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluation with the ADOS interview, written report, and follow-up appointment, is $650.
